This masking can be to protect an area whilst the rest of the part is being polished or some coatings are being applied.   The very unique Vitralit mask range of light-curing masks from Panacol are designed to do just this.  These masks can be easily applied by brushing, dipping or spraying and then cured in seconds when exposed to high-intensity light. The cured mask can then be easily removed further on in the manufacturing process leaving no residue on the implants.
