Edgebanding Adhesives

In modern, high-quality furniture manufacture, the quality of the edgebanding is increasingly becoming a key criterion for evaluating the quality of the entire furniture item.

The end customer demands a glueline that is hardly visible and perfect. ECT Adhesives are the authorised Irish distributor for Jowat Adhesives, a global manufacturer and supplier of hot melt adhesives.

Post Forming

Laminate countertops and panels are available in a number of shapes and edge treatments. The most common is called “post-formed,” which means that the top is formed from a single piece of laminate that’s shaped into a backsplash at the rear and a rounded edge in front. Since it’s a single piece, it has no seams to separate and no corners to catch dirt.

Traditionally this process has been done by solvent based contact adhesives but people are also now moving to laminate these substrates with PVAc dispersions and also PUR hot melts which are more environmentally friendly options and offer better temperature resistance.

The border between the edge and the coating on the underside can also be sealed with a PUR hot melt adhesive to improve the moisture resistance of the product.

Doweling Adhesives

Doweling glues from the Jowacoll® product series are special PVAc dispersion adhesives for hardwood, softwood and wood-based substrates and are ideal for nozzle application on fully automated industrial units due to the optimised cut-off. The dispersions have been developed to meet the specific requirements of modern industrial units – from low-viscosity, process-optimised adhesives for horizontal application on automatic dowelling units, to pasty versions for vertical overhead application on assembly lines. The adhesive forms a tough-elastic glue film. Special additives in the formulation prevent material build-up at the nozzle tips and facilitate an efficient, accurate application in fast industrial processes.

Veneering And Lamination Adhesives

In the manufacture of modern furniture and Fire Doors, wood-based panels are surface-laminated with the most diverse materials. Frequently used materials are resinated decor foils, natural wood veneers, as well as thermoplastic foils, CPL and HPL. The finished panels have numerous different applications: from the kitchen and home furniture to general interior fittings and floorings, the shipbuilding and caravan industries, as well as for exhibition displays and shopfitting. 3D Lamination Adhesives

In the manafacture of wrapped doors PUD - (Polyurethane Dispersion) are the best adhesive solution. The PUD is sprayed on the base/core substrate, left to dry, and a short time later reactivated with heat.
PUDs are used in either vacuum or membrane pressing. Vacuum pressing is done by heating the overlay and then creating bottom vacuum pressure to form the laminate material over the part. The heat and vacuum pressure create intimate contact between the part and laminate material that then activates the adhesive. Once the process is complete the part is trimmed and ready to process further.

Profile Wrapping Adhesives

Wrapped profiles are today accepted as standard components in the manufacture of modern furniture and building interiors. Whether as furniture decor, baseboards or cornice rails, drawer frames, wall and ceiling panels, door frames and other profiles of any kind – profile wrapping on the most diverse base substrates is a hot topic today, and wrapping materials can be chosen from an almost endless variety of foils, papers or veneers.
